God Moments

In the month of August I heard 3 different sermons on the topic of Matthew 14. This is the story of Jesus walking on the water. The third time I heard a sermon on the topic I thought “Wow, God must really think I need to hear this!” I don’t believe in coincidences. I will share what I learned. (1) Jesus was on his way to the disciples before they knew they needed his help! (2) When Peter saw the Lord on the water, he was ready to rush to his side. (3) When Peter took his eyes of Jesus and began to sink, Jesus was ready to rescue him.

Some would say the story is about a lack of trust. I think the story reinforces that God will also be there. Fear can be a debilitating issue in our lives. Anxiety and stress runs rampant in this world. Sometimes waves just seem to climb all over us. Remember God is there preparing a way before the storm, during the storm, and in the storm. We may not always show trust in God, but we can always trust God to be with us. As individuals and the corporate church, let’s unite together to do the work God has called us to and go walk on some water!

And in the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea. When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.” Peter said to Him, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” And He said, “Come!” And Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But seeing the wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him, and *said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” When they got into the boat, the wind stopped. And those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, “You are certainly God’s Son!” Matthew 14: 25-33

Lord Jesus, Help us to fix our eyes on you. Amen
