God Moments

It seemed to me that September brought turmoil in many areas of our social consciousness. Weather events devastated Texas, Florida, and islands in the Caribbean. We have seen the goodness and compassion of many that supported victims of the flooding and loss. Sometimes we seem to stand helpless as we watch people dug out of earthquakes in Mexico. Watch unspeakable heartache of people suffering the death of loved ones. We have watched the issue of standing for the American flag escalate into media frenzy. I have to admit I got pretty stirred up myself over this one.

I ask myself the question where is God in all of this chaos. My answer from the Holy Spirit is He is right here in the midst speaking in the still quiet voice of love. “Be still and know that I am God.” Psalms 46:10. Sometimes it’s hard not to be part of the chaos. Sometimes it’s hard to disagree respectfully. I’ve been reflecting on my response to crisis. What is my response to stress in my everyday life? I go back to scripture. “Be angry and sin not: let not the sun go down on your wrath.” Ephesians 4: 26. Then I think of Jesus words “Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God.”

Matthew 5: 9. I am called to be a peacemaker. I’m praying that God make me a better peacemaker as he refines me in the fire of his righteousness. Praise be to God.

Heavenly Father, Help me stand firm in a world of chaos. Not to be blown around by every wind, but focused on my power in you to survive every storm of life. Forgive me as I forgive those that tread on my feelings and beliefs. Make me a peacemaker in your image. In Jesus name, Amen.
